    As per my friend Pneuma's Suggestion, I added chamades from Dom Bedos - he had previously shared a previous version of this update which maintained the DD and BB chamades.

    Now I replaced the chamades in manual II with the Dom Bedos Chamades (the dedicated panel is still present to control the chamades)

    Enjoy one of the most powerful French Organ constructs that I have ever heard.

I am very grateful for this composite organ project and have managed to get it partially working, but I am having some difficulty loading the complete organ.

At present I can load and play about 38 stops successfully, but GrandOrgue appears to run out of memory before the full organ is instantiated. The stop jamb/window only shows 38 stops rather than the full 96. I am running this on a 32GB MacBook Pro.

I wondered whether loading both Front and Rear samples/perspectives might be contributing, although I have not yet found a clear way to experiment with disabling the rear samples.

I have also seen comments elsewhere suggesting that some files or paths may need manual case corrections (upper/lower case mismatches) for macOS/Linux systems. Could this perhaps cause only part of the organ to load correctly?

For reference:

  • The sample sets themselves appear to load correctly
  • The 38 visible stops all sound and function normally
  • I previously had an “out of memory” message during loading
  • Using 12-bit loading is currently stable, whereas 8-bit caused additional issues

Any advice would be very gratefully received.

Hi Peterduce,

What is interesting in your comment is that I have never seen ANY GrandOrgue build not show all the graphics upon loading - regardless of whether they are able to load all ranks into the memory. This implies an ODF parsing issue - where it is not able to read some of the ODF.

I believe this build will run at 32 GB/16 bit/lossless. Try those settings. After fully or partially loading the organ go to Audio/Midi - Organ Settings to disable the Rear Ranks perhaps.

Also you can feel free to post some of the error log messages here if you wish. If there is a case problem - it may indicate so.

Thanks — I appreciate the insight.

I think you’re right that there’s something odd happening at the ODF level rather than just memory limits.

This setup goes back about 18 months and I suspect it was originally built on an older GrandOrgue version (possibly V3 series). Over time I’ve ended up with multiple OrganInstallationPackages directories and I’m no longer confident everything is pointing to the correct locations. In trying to tidy it up I may also have removed or moved files that were still referenced by the ODF.

On top of that, I’m currently running this on a 2018 MacBook Pro which is now struggling with USB power stability when multiple devices are connected, which probably isn’t helping.

To get back to a stable baseline I’ve now bought a second-hand Mac mini. My plan is to build a clean GrandOrgue installation from scratch on the latest version, starting with Friesach (which I previously had working), and then take a full backup image once it is stable so I can safely experiment and roll back if needed.

I may well come back to you once I’ve got that clean baseline established, especially if the ODF parsing issue persists.

CPU? DRAM Size? 16, 20 or 24-bit loading? Single Release? All Releases? Lossless Compression? GrandOrgue Version? WINDOWS? LINUX?

Lots of variables!

These downloads are Hauptwerk (one from sonusparadisi, the other from piotrgrabowski). Just the resources are what's needed.

If you run LINUX you might have to do some renaming of Upper Case/Lower Case to eliminate errors.

I have a lenovo legion pro 5i laptop running windows

CPU: Intel Core i9 14900HX

RAM: 32 GB

I run grandorgue version 3.17.1.1 in 16 bit with lossless compression.

I have no issues running samplesets. I was able to get it to load, its just that with the demo versions downloaded I'm not sure how I would get the ranks not included in the demos to work.

I am unable to get it to load. When I attempt to load it I get a ton of rank errors and it freezes loading and says it will take 4 hours. I have a very good laptop that is easily able to run the Friesach extension. Could it be that I download hauptwerk versions of the demos? I was unable to find any for specifically grandorgue.

1. Download the Demos and place the 002960 and 002283 Directories into the OrganInstallationPackages Directory

2. Extract the contents of the .rar file I provided into the same OrganInstallationPackages Directory

3. Double click the .organ File. Again Make Sure it is INSIDE the OrganInstallationPackages Directory where the 002960 and 002283 directories are. Should be no problem.

I was able to get it to load, but I'm still getting a ton of rank errors in the log messages saying the certain ranks do not exist. Wouldn't the full versions of each of the samples sets be necessary to use this composite fully? If I only have the demos that means only certain ranks will work. Is there a workaround without having to pay for the full versions?

This composite only requires the demos. Hence, it is completely free!

Check to make sure you completely "unzipped" the downloads from Sonus and/or Piotr.

Here is an example of one of the rank errors I am getting. There are a lot more similar to it. Since I already have Friesach extended, I created a separate thing from the Friesach OrganInstallationPackage directory to put these in.

But this file does exist within 002283. This is one of the free stops available for BB.

So you have to solve why that error is happening - you have windows - so this is not a CASE error issue as in Linux.

1. Visit the 002283 directory and see if you have the SW_Octavian2 Directory within the Schw directory. Then verify that 024-C.wav exists within the SW_Octavian2 Directory. When I visit my 002283 all files are in place.

2. Verify within the .rar archive that you have the Octavian2 Directory within it before it is extracted - may be difficult to find - hence proceed to step 3.

3. Re-extract all 8 (Eight) downloads - you probably should extract each section manually - it is easy to incompletely extract it as I mentioned. Sometimes I use Hauptwerk installer to extract the files so that all of them are extracted - then I will ignore using Hauptwerk and continue with GrandOrgue work that references those directories.

I believe this will run with all releases on a 32 GB system. It is a two perspective build (diffuse/rear). So there are ways to allow it to run in smaller systems - possibly it may run on a 16 GB system with one perspective or both perspectives on single release. Give it a try - its free!

I loaded it on my wife's small DELL Touch Laptop which has only an i3, 16GB DRAM. Used 16bit, Single Release, Lossless Compression. Runs fine if you are careful not to overload registration/couplers. Of course I am NOT running Bill Gates' OS!

I use nothing but LINUX MINT 22 on all my machines.

I believe that is what it comes in at when running at 20bit or are you using 24 bit?
